Frequently Asked Questions

Short answers to the most common questions about PALIMPS.

What is PALIMPS?

PALIMPS is an iOS app that captures quotes, highlights and handwritten margin notes from physical books by photographing the page and reading them with AI. It gathers every book you read in one quiet digital library. No ads.

How does PALIMPS work?

First you photograph the book cover and the title and author are recognized automatically. Then you snap a page. AI reads the printed text, highlights and handwritten notes separately. Each page is saved as a moment with a short summary and automatic tags.

Is PALIMPS free?

You can download PALIMPS from the App Store for free and start using it. For those who want more, there is an optional Premium subscription.

What devices does it run on?

PALIMPS is currently available for iPhone as an iOS app on the App Store.

Can it really read handwritten margin notes?

Yes. PALIMPS recognizes printed text, highlights and underlines, and handwritten margin notes separately, and turns each one into text.

Can I export my reading memory?

Yes. Your reading memory is yours. You can export it as a PDF in one tap and take it anywhere.

Is PALIMPS a book-tracking app?

No. PALIMPS is not for listing or rating the books you have read. It captures the line you underline on the page and the note you write in the margin. The contents of a book, the trace you leave. There is no social feed. A quiet library.

What is the reading assistant?

The reading assistant lets you chat with AI over the quotes you have saved. It answers like a calm librarian. Brief, clear, unopinionated.

Where does the name PALIMPS come from?

The name comes from the word palimpsest. A palimpsest is a manuscript page written over again and again that still carries traces of the earlier text. Every reading leaves a trace, invisible, indelible. PALIMPS keeps those traces.

What languages does PALIMPS support?

The PALIMPS interface is available in Turkish and English.
